Kaitlyn’s Room: 3 year old cancer survivor

January 26, 2015 By MK Kids Interiors Leave a Comment

Happy New Year!

Yes I know I’m a little late, but I’ve been busy working on a few exciting projects, here in London and abroad.Kaitlyns room- moodboard 2

My previous post was about a precious little girl with cancer. Her parents asked me to do something special to her room. Although it was an extremely small room (200cm x 180cm,) we had a very low budget which was dependent on donations. I must say members of the church she attends are really generous. Thanks to the church members (their workplaces: The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School, Ealing Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, QA Limited and Hyland House School), we raised £875.55 +another £200 (which was raised after the bulk of the project was completed) this will be given to Great Ormond Street Hospital. The initial proposed design would have cost £1084, however I had to revise some of the choices to stay in the region of eight hundred.

I wanted to achieve a brighter, cheerful space that Kaitlyn would enjoy. We had help from friends to paint the room, there was a stubborn shelf that did not want to come off the wall; so we painted it the same colour as the wall, (so that it wasn’t an eyesore). Some of the special features in Kaitlyn’s new room includes a ‘dressing-up clothes rail’, ‘a doll house bookcase’ and a single bed with storage. Kaitlyn loves her room! As we were photographing the room, she helped with styling and kept me fully entertained.

Kaitlyn is currently undergoing chemotherapy, but she is responding well. Her family and friends continue to pray for her. If you would like us to design a room for your child or you would like to do a similar project for someone else. We are happy to help. Please send us an email info@mkkidsinteriors.com.
