Medina King

CEO

I am the founder and Creative Director at MK Kids Interiors. I absolutely love my job designing spaces for children, travelling, and meeting new people.

1. What did you aspire to be when you were younger.
Before I discovered that I was good at art and enjoyed it, I wanted to be an airhostess, because I loved travelling and being on the plane. As an adult I dread long haul flights.

2. Name one item you cannot live without.
My contact lenses, you don’t my glasses! I prefer my face without them or maybe I’m just vain.

3. What is your favourite part of the design process.
I have many parts that I love; seeing the children’s faces when they enter their completed space, gives me immense joy and satisfaction that cannot be explained. I also love fabric, wallpaper, and furniture shopping. I enjoy going to the design centre Chelsea Harbour and getting lost in the fabrics, wallpapers, lighting, furniture and finishes they have there, its always inspirational for me.

4. Polka dots or stripes.
I like circles, but not polka dots. I would prefer to wear stripes, because aesthetically it looks better, but it gives a serious aura, and I’m more playful, so I prefer organic forms. In children’s spaces, I would prefer large circles.

5. Favourite music genre.
It must be jazz! Oooh, I worked through my GCSE art coursework to Jazz. Some of my favourite musicians are Amy Winehouse, Samara Joy, Eliane Elias, Stan Gets, Joao Gilberto, Esperanza Spaldings.

6. Favourite designer.
Kelly Hoppen was my inspiration in school, her growth story was inspirational and that’s the only celebrity British Interior designer that I knew. I loved her even more when I realised, we share the same Birthday 28 th July We are both lionesses! ROARRR!!

7. If you could only wear one colour for the rest of your life, what colour would it be?
Pink, without a doubt!

8. Favourite Movie.
As a teenager it was Love and Basketball, as an adult with a little one, it’s now SING.

9. If you could say something to your younger self 10 years ago, what would it be?
Follow your dreams. Pursue the desires of your heart with confidence, don’t allow nay sayers, or people who aren’t where you want to be to influence you.

10. If you had to be a character in any movie, which one would you be and why?
If I were a Kardashian, I would be Kourtney, because of our ethical values, and our efforts in trying to feed our children right.

11. Describe your perfect day.
Journaling, Sunshine & Warmth, Jogging, ticking everything off my to do list, with time to enjoy the evening at the beach.

Energy and health to continue work and activity.

3. What is your favourite part of the design process.

I like the movie Atmosphere very much because I am very interested in time travel and I want to know what the earth will be like in millions of years.

Be brave and continue your life calmly and do not fear anything because God has prepared the best plan for you.
