Moving With Kids

Moving homes with kidsMoving into a new property is always going to be stressful. But do you know what can make it even more stressful? Doing it when you have kids! When you need to prepare for a house move, there will be a lot going on. Not only will you have to oversee all the legal side of buying and selling property, but you will have to clean your old house and pack everything into boxes. When you have to look after kids at the same time, you will have a lot on your plate – it could be extremely difficult to manage.

Thankfully, you don’t have to get too stressed out when moving with kids. These dos and don’ts should make it a whole lot easier for you.

Don’t Do It All Yourself

If you try and take on too much at once, you will certainly be on a fast track to a whole load of stress! So, it’s a good idea to get some help with the move. There will be lots of movers in your local area who you could hire to give you a hand. The company you go with will help you load their truck and then drive all your belongings to your new property. Some will even take care of your packing for you, which leaves you more time to take care of the kids.

Do It When The Kids Aren’t Around

Kids will always want most of your attention, and you might not be able to give them any when you are so busy on moving day. It makes sense then to carry out the move when your kids aren’t going to be around. For instance, moving mid-week usually makes sense as your children will be at kindergarten or school. If you have to move at the weekend, it’s worth seeing if a friend or relative will look after them for the day to give you time to get on with the move.

Don’t Disrupt Their Routine

If your children are still quite young, they will probably follow a very strict routine when it comes to mornings and bedtime. Ideally, you should not disrupt this while you are moving as it can be very difficult to get them back into a constant routine. You might also find that any disruption makes it a lot harder to them to settle into their new home. So, if at all possible, be sure to stick to their same routine and plan your move around it.

Do Make It Fun For Them

If your kids are around for most of the move, you should try and make it fun for them. For example, you could always make a game out of moving all your boxes around. This way they won’t get too bored or frustrated and are a lot less likely to be mischievous and badly behaved! MK Kids Interiors offers a full interior design service for children of busy parents; offering a creative kids consultation that allows children to take part in the process of designing their rooms.MK Kids Interiors Colour workshop for children_ bedroom mood board making for children_moving with kids
